Nigeria
An estimated 1.8 million people in Nigeria’s Boko Haram region are at a risk of starvation.
This is according to the World Food Programme (WFP) which is calling for the support of the international community as it aims to feed millions of people worst affected by malnutrition in Nigeria’s north east region.
“Now is not the time to turn away from those who have been affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and this ongoing conflict. Recognising that there are many challenges in the world, I’m imploring the international community to continue to provide us with the support that is necessary,” said Ertharin Cousin, WFP, Executive Director.
Efforts to reach about 300,000 people failed after market places and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp were attacked.
Now in it’s eighth year, the Boko Haram insurgency has killed over 15,000 people and forced some two million others to flee their homes.
